COVID-19 Public Health Emergency to End May 11

The Biden Administration plans to end on May 11 the COVID-19 national and public health emergencies declared in 2020, according to a policy statement released Monday by the Office of Management and Budget. The Administration opposes a proposed U.S. House resolutions that would end the emergencies immediately, if passed. The Administration’s plan would align with its previous commitments to give at least 60 days’ notice before terminating the PHE.

The end of the public health emergency will result in the termination of certain COVID-19 PHE-related flexibilities and waivers. The Kaiser Family Foundation issued a brief to provide an overview of the implications of the sunset of the PHE on these flexibilities.
