Hospitals Nationwide Report $105 Billion in Community Benefit

The American Hospital Association yesterday released its Community Benefit report showing hospitals nationwide provided $105 billion in community benefits in 2018. This is the most recent year for which comprehensive data is available and represents 13.9% of total expenses that year. Tax-exempt hospitals report publicly on community benefit activities, which include financial assistance for those in need, as well as a wide range of programs and services to meet the current and future health needs of all they serve.

OHA released the Ohio Community Benefit report in late July that reported Ohio nonprofit hospitals reported $7.6 billion in net community benefit, a $553 million increase in 2019 from the previous year. View the report here.
