January is National Birth Defects Awareness Month

In the United States, one in every 33 newborns are born with a birth defect. Birth defects are structural changes present at birth that can affect almost any part or parts of the body (e.g., heart, brain, foot). While some birth defects cannot be prevented, there are several preventative measures that can increase the likelihood that babies can be born without defects.

March Of Dimes has a webpage dedicated to National Birth Defects Awareness Month. Information on birth defects, preventative measures and healthcare providers available who treat birth defects.
