OHA member MetroHealth received a nearly $3 million federal grant to increase the number of front-line public health professionals who serve as a vital link between health and social service providers in Northeast Ohio. The grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration is part of a nationwide effort to develop a pipeline of community health workers to improve public health emergency response, increase access to care and address the public health needs of disadvantaged communities. The health system hopes to recruit 240 trainees over the next three years, with the majority of the grant going toward application fees, transportation and other fees that trainees may incur while enrolling and training with the health system.
