New AHA Analysis Reports Continued Hospital Losses Expected Through 2021

A new analysis by consulting firm Kaufman, Hall & Associates, LLC published by the American Hospital Association Sept. 21 suggests that higher expenses and more patients putting off care will continue hurting the finances of hospitals and health care systems the rest of the year.  

The expense increases are a result of the current pandemic surge. Uncertainty around COVID-19 variants could lead to a loss greater than the report’s 2021 estimate of $54 billion in net income. The full analysis can be read on the AHA website here
