Number of Medical School Seniors, Graduates Matched to Residency Slots Grows

According to the National Resident Matching Program, the 2023 Main Residency Match was a record-breaking match with the highest number of applicants and certified positions in its 70-year history. The applicant participation increased, driven primarily by non-U.S. international medical graduates, and the number of U.S. MD seniors registered for the match decreased. Match rates increased among nearly all applicant types compared to the 2022 Main Residency Match, with U.S. MD seniors having a 93.7% match rate.
