OHA’s First Steps Program Adds 3 Hospitals, Recognizes Dozens More

Applications are in and 58 Ohio hospitals have earned or renewed recognition through the latest two rounds of the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies initiative sponsored by OHA and the Ohio Department of Health to promote breastfeeding.

Three OHA members – Fisher-Titus Medical Center, McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital and Genesis HealthCare System – joined the ranks as newly recognized hospitals.

A total of 21 OHA member hospitals advanced to the next level in recognition and 34 member hospitals renewed their status. In all, 85 member hospitals are currently participating in the First Steps program. Click here for the full list.

Ohio First Steps is a voluntary breastfeeding designation program that recognizes maternity centers in Ohio for taking steps to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in their organization. Hospitals are awarded one star for every two steps achieved of the World Health Organization’s and Baby-Friendly USA’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Hospitals can earn a total of five stars.
