Providers Must Report Vaping-Related Pulmonary Cases by Next Business Day

The Ohio Department of Health this week issued a new requirement for health care providers to report to their local health department by the end of the next business day all suspected cases of severe pulmonary disease of unclear etiology when the patient has a history of vaping in the past 90 days.
Providers should report all suspected cases to the local health department in the jurisdiction in which the case resides using this form.

As of Oct. 1, state and local public health officials in Ohio have confirmed 22 cases of vaping-related severe pulmonary illness and are investigating an additional 19 reports of illness among patients experiencing serious respiratory symptoms following e-cigarette or vaping product use.

Cases have been reported in these counties: Butler, Cuyahoga (2), Franklin (4), Hamilton (2), Jefferson, Lucas, Montgomery, Portage, Richland (2), Summit (3), Tuscarawas, Union (2) and Wayne
