OHA’s Environmental Leadership Council Invites New Members

The Ohio Hospital Association Environmental Leadership Council is seeking new members. The ELC leads Ohio hospitals toward the goals of environmental sustainability, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency and pollution prevention, all of which will result in healthier hospital workforces and communities.
Over the next year, the ELC will focus on issues related to climate change as it impacts hospital resilience and the public and environmental health of communities Ohio hospitals serve. The council also presents annual environmental leadership awards and oversees OHA Energy & Sustainability Program.
Since the council formed more than 15 years ago, it has recommended policy positions to OHA staff and the OHA Board of Trustees on issues involving environmental and energy-related regulation and legislation, and has provided best practices information such as the recently published Ohio Healthier Hospitals booklet.
Past projects include eliminating mercury from hospitals, Pollution Prevention University for hospital leadership to demonstrate best practices following the waste streams and the deregulation management of infectious waste which saved Ohio hospitals millions of dollars.
Currently, the council meets twice a year and the next meeting scheduled is Oct. 13 at the OHA office. People interested in serving on the Environmental Leadership Council should contact Rick Sites.
