Plan Ahead During National Healthcare Decisions Week April 16-22

National Healthcare Decisions Day is a week-long event this year to be observed April 16-22. This national effort aims to help people understand the value of advance health care planning.
Advance directives are legal documents that direct medical care when a patient is unable to communicate his or her wishes due to a medical condition. In Ohio, do not resuscitate orders, living wills, organ donation and durable powers of attorney are advance directives authorized by state law.
The elements involved in drafting or determining one’s wishes regarding advance directives are very important. OHA and Ohio hospitals are committed to providing the education and resources needed to help individuals take control and put these wishes in writing, including the Ohio Advance Directives booklet, Choices: Living Well at the End of Life, which includes the most recent Advance Directives forms.

In observance of National Healthcare Decisions Day, hospitals can lead by example and encourage everyone in their facility to execute their own advance directives. For additional information, visit
