Start Planning Today for Sepsis Awareness Month

The Ohio Hospital Association is teaming up with the Sepsis Alliance and other local and international health care and community organizations in promoting Sepsis Awareness Month in September. In 2011, Sepsis Alliance recognized that more attention could be drawn to sepsis and sepsis awareness if there was a specific month dedicated to the cause. The following year, the Global Sepsis Alliance, of which the Sepsis Alliance is a founding member, declared Sept. 13 to be World Sepsis Day. This one day brings together people in health care and members of the public to recognize that sepsis is a global problem.
OHA invites community health organizations, first responders and providers at all levels of care to join the OHA Signs of Sepsis Initiative. The OHA SOS campaign aims to raise awareness of the signs of sepsis and increase early recognition and intervention across the continuum of care.
The OHA SOS webpage,, includes information about the initiative, how to partner and a toolkit of resources to promote participation in the campaign. The toolkit includes talking points, sample social media posts and graphics, newsletter and blog articles, a sample news release and campaign graphics.
