Ensuring Ohioans Have Access to High-Quality Hospital Care
OHA exists to collaborate with member hospitals and health systems to promote a sustainable health care system so Ohioans have access to high-quality hospital care in their communities.
OHA Committees
Member-led policy committees advise the OHA Board of Trustees on issues vital to the hospital community. The OHA board also appoints work groups composed of member hospital representatives to study emerging issues in health care delivery.
Admitting, Billing & Collection Committee
Purpose: To act as the representative body for hospital admitting and patient financial services functions to the OHA Board of Trustees, OHA staff and all OHA committees and task forces.
Behavioral Health Committee
Purpose: To advise the OHA Board of Trustees on policy matters relating to the provision of behavioral health services at Ohio hospitals and health systems, including but not limited to financing, access to treatment, continuum of care, payer policies and local behavioral health systems.
Clinical Advisory Committee
Purpose: To develop a strategic patient safety and quality agenda for OHA, recommending priority initiatives to the OHA Board of Trustees.
Environmental Leadership Council
Purpose: To provide guidance and leadership for Ohio’s hospitals and health systems toward environmental stewardship; sustainability; reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; environmental, social, and governance principles; and environmental justice, equity and improving health outcomes and wellness.
Finance Committee
Purpose: To assist and advise OHA on association policy on the financing and cost of hospital care and to assess the financial environment. The committee concentrates on the issues associated with Medicare, Medicaid and workers' compensation payment and other public health financing programs.
Physician Leadership Advisory Council
Purpose: To recommend statewide initiatives to increase physician engagement to improve patient care.
Safety Council
Purpose: The OHA Safety Council provides a forum for Ohio hospitals to focus upon safety issues related to hospital and health care workers and patients.
Small & Rural Hospital Committee
Purpose: To communicate items of interest with the small and rural hospitals in Ohio. The committee will recommend policy positions to OHA on small and rural issues, provide ideas for and support educational opportunities for small and rural hospitals, and to provide input to the OHA Board on proposed state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to small and rural hospitals.
Ohio Hospitals’ United Voice Since 1915
Ohio’s hospital community dates back to 1823. OHA, the country’s first state-level hospital association, was founded by a group of 60 hospital leaders at the Hotel Breakers on Aug. 25, 1915.

Hand Hygiene
OHA’s hand hygiene program focuses on improving rates by assessing hospital staff compliance and providing immediate recommendations on how hospitals can improve by redesigning policies and offering more robust education and training opportunities. Over 315,000 observations were completed by the hand hygiene observers in 2023.
