Improving Maternal Health Outcomes — Addressing Severe Hypertension in Pregnancy
OHA’s Board of Trustees identified improving maternal and infant health as one of our key strategic focus areas. Ohio’s first Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health, or AIM, initiative was to focus on improving hospital staff readiness, recognition of and response to severe hypertension in pregnancy, which was reported by Ohio’s Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review, or PAMR, (summarizing data from 2008-2016) to be preventable in 85% of maternal deaths. These efforts are undertaken in partnership with the Ohio Department of Children and Youth.
