57 Nominees Announced for Health Care Worker of the Year Award, Hospital Leaders to Receive Leadership Awards, Ohio Business Roundtable to be Recognized with Community Service Award

Columbus, Ohio – 43215 (May 12, 2023) – In recognition of National Hospital Week, May 7-13, the Ohio Hospital Association today announced 57 nominees for the 2023 Health Care Worker of the Year Award, and the honorees of its annual leadership awards to be recognized at the annual OHA Recognition Dinner, during the association’s annual meeting June 12-14 at the Hilton Columbus at Easton.

“Ohio hospitals are cornerstones of the communities they serve, providing high quality compassionate care delivered by more than 430,000 employees,” said Mike Abrams, OHA president and CEO. “The leadership and community contributions of the honorees and nominees for our statewide awards are truly exemplary. We are honored to celebrate their important accomplishments and service in health care.”

This year’s leadership award honorees are:

• Bruce White (Mt. Vernon), president and CEO, Knox Community Hospital, will receive OHA’s Donald R. Newkirk Award. The award is named for Don Newkirk who led OHA for 27 years and recognizes an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution to the health care profession in Ohio. 

• Mandy Goble (Bellefontaine), FACHE, retired president and CEO, Mary Rutan Health, will receive OHA’s James R. Castle Distinguished Service Award, which honors an individual whose professional attainments embody qualities of an outstanding leader or mentor for service to the health care community. This award is named for OHA’s president and CEO for 23 years, from 1989 through 2011.

• Ohio Business Roundtable (Columbus – 43215) will receive OHA’s Dr. Eli Crew Community Service Excellence Award. This award recognizes an individual’s or organization’s support of the health care industry. The award is named in honor of Dr. Eli R. Crew, former superintendent of Dayton’s Miami Valley Hospital and OHA’s first president. In 1914, he led Ohio hospital administrators to an organizational meeting at Cedar Point, Sandusky where OHA was founded.

OHA’s Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award is presented each year to one Ohio caregiver who personifies a leader, motivates colleagues, influences others, provides valuable service, personifies the mission, vision and values of the organization, and has an impact in their community. Each year OHA invites member hospitals and health systems to nominate one outstanding professional for consideration for this award.
 
About Bruce White (photo)
White has been at Knox Community Hospital for 27 years in the positions of Director of Information Services, Assistant Administrator and, for the past 17 years, as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer. He holds a Master of Business Administration with certification in Healthcare Management from The University of Dallas; a Master of Business in Operational Excellence in Healthcare with Six Sigma Lean Green Belt certification from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business; and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from Youngstown State University.  

White is in his third year on the American Hospital Association Board currently serving as Chair for AHA Regional Policy Board Region 5, Chair of the Investment Committee, member of the Operations Committee and AHAPAC, and as Board liaison to the Committee for Behavioral Health.

In 2018 he served as Board Chair for the Ohio Hospital Association and is currently a member of the OHA Institute for Health Innovation Board of Directors. Locally, he serves on the Knox County Community Health Center Board and the Knox County Area Development Foundation Board. His experience includes community service with multiple organizations including, Mental Health & Recovery Board for Licking & Knox Counties; Kenyon College Board of Trustees; Board Chairperson 2016-2018, Ohio River Basin ACO; Past President, Past Secretary, Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon; Past Campaign Chair, United Way of Knox County; Knox County Chamber of Commerce; The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon; and Mount Vernon YMCA.

In 2015, he was named Hospital CEO of the Year by Quorum Health Resources and, in 2017 Knox Community Hospital was named Quorum’s Top Performing Hospital over $100M in Net Revenue. 

About Mandy Goble (photo)
Goble retired as president of Mary Rutan Hospital (Bellefontaine) in 2021. Her career with the hospital included 32 years, including more than 17 years as president and CEO. Before serving as CEO, Goble served as executive vice president from 2001 to 2004 and vice president of operations from 1989 to 2004. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. 

Goble’s dedication to the Bellefontaine community and Mary Rutan Health has been evident in her drive to expand the level of services and maintain the organization's financial strength, strategically positioning Mary Rutan Health to remain independent. During her tenure, Mrs. Goble brought increased health care services to the community through expanded and new service lines, building projects and community programming outreach. The new Goble Center for Women & Children at Mary Rutan (named in honor of Goble) opened last year, and the new Goble Center will provide the women and children of the community with a dedicated place to receive the care they need to live long and healthy lives, impacting the well-being of the community for generations. 

Goble received her bachelor’s degree in business administration and a MBA from Marshall University. She also completed the executive program in health care management at Ohio State University. She has achieved Diplomate status in the American Academy of Medical Administrators and served as the organization’s regional director. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is involved in numerous community organizations. Mandy was an active member of OHA, serving on the Small and Rural Committee, the PAC Board and OHA Board of Trustees. 

About Ohio Business Roundtable Stop the Spread Coalition (photo)
The Ohio Business Roundtable created the Stop the Spread Coalition in 2020 comprised of over 180 businesses (including OHA and member hospitals and health systems), non-profit organizations and education institutions. Its goal was to mobilize a grassroots effort by ordinary Ohioans to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and curb the spread of the virus. OBRT’s Stop the Spread Coalition provided businesses important information to advise workforce about COVID-19 and vaccine safety. These resources were available to the business community in Ohio through a website. 

In 1992, the Ohio Business Roundtable was established for one sole purpose: to improve Ohio’s business climate.  Since its inception, the OBRT has worked with Ohio’s governors and legislative leaders to make Ohio more business-friendly and more competitive both nationally and internationally. The Roundtable is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization comprised of over 100 presidents and CEOs of Ohio’s top companies, 75 of which are headquartered in the state and more than one third of which are Fortune 1000 companies.
