Ohio Experiencing CDC’s Highest Flu Activity Level

The Sepsis Alliance is raising awareness during Sepsis Survivor Week, Feb. 9-15, by highlighting the physical, mental and emotional challenges faced by up to 60% of sepsis survivors. The organization provides educational resources, advocacy tools and survivor stories to support those affected and drive policy change. Health care professionals can access training through the Sepsis Alliance and join efforts to improve post-sepsis care. The Ohio Society of Health Care Risk Managers and the Society for Ohio Health Care Attorneys will host their annual spring conference on March 28 at The Blackwell Inn in Columbus. The event will bring together risk managers, hospital attorneys, compliance officers and health care leaders to discuss key legal and risk management issues impacting hospitals. The Ohio Department of Health has reported the state's first probable human case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in a Mercer County farm worker who had contact with deceased poultry. While the CDC considers the risk to the general public low, officials urge those working with birds to follow biosecurity protocols and avoid unprotected contact with sick or dead poultry. Best practices for poultry workers include proper hygiene, limiting visitor access, and monitoring flocks for illness. Ohioans should report sick or dead birds to state agencies and contact health care providers if they develop respiratory symptoms after exposure. Find more information here.

The AHA Next Generation Leaders Fellowship is a 12-month program designed to develop health care professionals through virtual learning, mentorship, and a capstone project. An informational webinar at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 will provide details on how fellows engage, innovate and drive change within their organizations. The program begins with an in-person kickoff in June 2025 and concludes at the AHA Leadership Summit in July 2026, where fellows will present their project solutions. Applications are due by March 31.
