Akron Children’s, University of Akron Partner to Offer Free Nursing Degree
Akron Children’s Hospital and the University of Akron have partnered to address the nursing shortage by offering a free Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, or ADN, degree through the Akron Children’s Career Launch Program.
Starting in January 2025, 30 students will receive prepaid tuition, along with funding for uniforms, books and supplies, in exchange for a 2-3-year work commitment at Akron Children’s Hospital. The ADN program, funded by a $1.5 million investment from Akron Children’s, provides students with a faster path to becoming registered nurses with specialized training in pediatric care. Classroom lectures are available at University of Akron campuses in Akron and Medina, as well as via livestream, while labs and clinicals will be held locally.
The priority application deadline is Nov. 15, with more information available on the University of Akron’s website. Read the full report here.
