Join OHA, The Joint Commission for a Strategic Accreditation Event May 21

OHA is excited to partner with The Joint Commission for Accreditation of the Future, a one-day event on the third day of the 110th OHA Annual Meeting & Education Summit (May 19-21) at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. This conference will help healthcare leaders navigate the changing accreditation landscape and uncover actionable strategies for improvement.

Key highlights include:

  • The Joint Commission’s benchmarking tool: Gain insight into how your organization’s survey results compare with peers and use the findings to drive meaningful improvement.
  • Thought leadership: Hear from The Joint Commission’s James Merlino, MD, executive vice president and chief innovation officer, and Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president, accreditation and certification operations, and chief nursing officer, on the latest innovations transforming accreditation and patient safety.
  • Statewide strategy session: Explore innovative approaches to improving care delivery and outcomes across Ohio.

Participants will also learn about The Joint Commission’s modernization efforts to streamline surveys and reduce burden on hospitals. Apply for OHA's 2025 Health Care Sustainability Awards by May 16

The OHA Environmental Leadership Council is proud to announce it will bring back its Health Care Sustainability Awards for the first time since 2022. The two honors set to be given out in 2025 recognize hospitals and health systems that are leading the way in environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. OHA is accepting applications for two award categories through May 16: The Creeley Sustainability Effort Award – Honoring facilities making strong progress in sustainability. The Chapman Sustainability Leadership Award – Celebrating organizations demonstrating leadership and significant achievements in sustainability. Ohio Hospitals Must Establish Workplace Violence Prevention Plans by July

Under HB 452, all Ohio hospitals—both independent and part of larger systems—must implement formal security plans to prevent workplace violence by July 8, 2025. The law requires each hospital to assemble a security team, conduct a security risk assessment, develop a comprehensive security plan and meet specific standards for training, incident reporting, signage and annual review. To comply, hospitals must also submit an attestation through Juvare’s EMResource platform. Access can be requested by completing the Licensure Juvare User/Organization Request form, available through the Ohio Department of Health.
