OHA Board Appoints New Officer, Welcomes New Trustees
Columbus, Ohio – 43215 – The Ohio Hospital Association Board of Trustees on June 12 appointed Steve Markovich, MD, president & CEO of OhioHealth, as Secretary/Treasurer of the board. Markovich will complete the term vacated by WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital and WVU Medicine Harrison Community Hospital CEO Dave Phillips who recently transitioned to a new leadership position with WVU Medicine in Wheeling, WV. OHA board officers serve one-year terms.
The OHA Board also appointed two new trustees, Brent Burkey, MD, President & CEO, Fisher-Titus Medical Center (Norwalk) and John Warner, MD, CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Executive Vice President at Ohio State (Columbus). Burkey and Warner will fill vacant seats on the board due to the retirement of Lorraine Lutton, President and CEO, Mount Carmel and the departure of Phillips.
“The health care needs and opportunities we face are extraordinary and hospitals are leading in so many ways to help create a stronger health care system for all,” said Mike Abrams, OHA president and CEO. “We are honored to have Dr. Markovich as a new officer, and Dr. Warner and Dr. Burkey as new trustees on the board. Dr. Markovich is an extraordinary leader with extensive medical experience as a family and emergency physician as well as a military leader. Dr. Warner’s service as a physician-scientist and a national advocate for initiatives to reduce disparities in health care have helped form a stronger delivery system. As a member of the medical staff of his hospital and serving in a variety of leadership positions within medical teams throughout his career, Dr. Burkey is a strong advocate for health care policy development.”
“Lorraine and Dave contributed immensely to our organization’s governance and member service offerings, all while managing the leadership responsibilities of their own organizations,” said Abrams. “A strong advocate for OHA’s Energy & Sustainability program, Dave also informed our work with our small and rural hospital members. Lorraine expanded her organization’s work on maternal health, and the results of her leadership in this area have been shared throughout OHA’s work in maternal and infant health.”
The OHA Board of Trustees sets policy and strategic direction for matters affecting hospitals throughout Ohio. The board includes representatives from small and large hospitals, urban and rural hospitals, teaching facilities and independent facilities and health care systems. The board consists of four officers, the OHA president and CEO and 18 trustees-at-large.
