Ohio Health Officials Urge Measles Vaccination Amid Outbreak
The Ohio Department of Health has confirmed a measles outbreak in Ashtabula County, with 10 cases reported, including one linked to an out-of-state visitor who exposed others in Knox and nearby counties. None of the affected individuals were vaccinated, prompting health officials to stress the importance of the MMR vaccine, which is 97% effective in preventing measles. Measles is highly contagious and can cause severe complications, especially in young children, but vaccination offers strong protection. The CDC recommends children receive two doses of the MMR vaccine, starting at 12 to 15 months of age.
